Some of you may be aware that Essyllta and I have been dating for some time now.
Last night, I decided the time was right and asked her to marry me =D

Long read ahead :icongoofygrinplz:
She is a little sleuth, with her extensive collection of Nancy Drew games, and so surprising her is usually very complicated, as she tends to figure out what I'm up to pretty quickly. That is, of course, if I planned this sort of thing like most people do.
I had her completely oblivious to the last second! HAHA! See, I did have in mind to propose "soon". I had ordered the ring online, and was just waiting for it to arrive. But to surprise a detective, you have to operate a lot like the Joker, and just fly willy-nilly, with a slightly planned plan in mind.

I'll start yesterday from when I got the email telling me I had a package in the university mail room at lunch. She was sitting right next to me, but I knew that there was going to be a 10 minute gap where I could go get it without her knowing about it between classes. So off we went to class, which I couldn't pay much attention to because of how excited I was the whole time... Butterflies in my stomach had started, and I daydreamed for the whole hour and a half about how exactly I would do it. I decided right then that it would happen that night.
We had planned earlier that we would go to her parent's house to watch some Big Bang Theory episodes with them (something we do rather frequently), and so I decided that either I would do it when we got to her house, or after, when I was about to leave. Vague plans are the best, because then you don't stress out if it doesn't go exactly according to plan. I've always been good at improvising. It's one of my favorite talents.
After class got out, I grabbed my bike that I had parked near the door to get to the mail room quickly, and sped off to get that package. Flashed my student ID to claim it, and was handed a small cardboard box. I held my breath, warm fuzzies went from belly to finger tips. I couldn't contain my smile, as I thanked the mail man. He had no idea what he had just handed me, but smiled back awkwardly.
I peeled towards the bathroom around the corner. Couldn't have any of her friends noticing (she has spies everywhere, mail man included). Walked up to the sink, and put the little box down. It was very well taped shut, but I didn't have a knife on me.
  Car Key!
I pulled the key out of my pocket. I used it so often to open boxes of supplies at work... Just felt natural. I put the sharp end to the tape, and cut it open. I looked from side to side, making sure no one was in there that might know her. No one. I popped open the cardboard flap, and there, amidst a fluffy cloud of wrapping paper, was a small white box. My breath was suddenly heavier, as I picked up the small box, and took the lid off. There in the center, was the small, simple three stone ring I had ordered.
White gold, smooth plain band, with a cute criss-cross setting containing 3 white sapphires in a row. I'm not wealthy. She's not obsessed with big jewelry, and for her, it could be painted glass, so long as it lasted forever. I was the prettiest, shiniest ring I'd ever held in my hand. I put it mack in the box, and slipped it into my satchel.

I've been drawing pictures for the girlfriend for a few days now. Little requests and romantic pictures of me and her (Which I wont be posting here, sorry guys =P Her rules.). I left little hints in each of them... you know, a ring on her finger, etc. Never noticed them.
I decided that that would both be a surprising medium to use for a proposal, as well as an ongoing tradition, that she'd never expect. The first flower I ever gave her was a rose. A drawing, of a rose. I've given her 'real' flower since then, but that drawing has been on her desk for a year and a half now. It's forever, and the first flower she got from me will always be there.
I drew a few extra drawings for her, and as a final one I drew one of her standing, and myself down on a knee, with a ring. My speech bubble said 'will you marry me?'. As an after though, I gave her a speech bubble as well, but with a blank line in it. I intended to give her a pen, so she could finish the drawing when she got it.
She saw me later that afternoon, drawing in my sketchbook, and asked, "Is that another one? Can I see?", as she started leaning over to peer over my shoulder. I immediately flipped the sketchbook closed nervously. I told her she could see it later. Normally I'd let her peek, and so this upset her. She was doing homework, and was stressed, and tired, and probably just wanted to rest her mind from it by looking at me draw for a bit, but I hid it.
She was visibly saddened and upset, and it hurt a bit, but I knew it would be worth it later. I assured her that I'd let her see it later when I was done. And that it would be worth it, trust me. Still upset, she just went back to doing homework.

I had just remembered that I had talked to a friend earlier to give me a haircut like she does every so often (Free haircuts, YEAH! =D), but I had totally spaced out, and was an hour late. Called her, and she was still cool with me coming over, so I did.
While she cut my hair, I asked her some questions about the married apartments, which she lives in with her husband. Questions like what bills were like, facilities, wether they were furnished or not (and praying they weren't, for several reasons). Naturally, she caught on quickly. I was asking an awful lot of questions about an apartment complex that is meant for married students. When did I plan on asking the girlfriend?
  "Tonight.", I replied bluntly.
She was so excited! And so was I! Throughout the rest of my haircut, we talked about it more, but in the end, I swore her to secrecy. She wished me luck, and I went home, where the girlfriend and some roommates + one's girlfriend had just finished watching a movie. I walked in as the credits rolled.
She was sitting on the "bunk couch" (a double decker couch my engineering major roommate built for extra seating space. Masked and I claimed the perch first day in.), and had just finished being stressed about a waste of time her homework ended up being. I was too pleased with myself to be mad/sad/stressed with her. I was high on the butterflies in my belly for the past 5 hours!
I scooped her off the perch, and set her on the ground. We were going to her parent's house for Big Bang. I tried not to smile too much, but it was hard. That goofy grin of mine just wouldn't stay down.
I still hadn't decided when or where I'd do it, but I had the ring, I had the girl, and I had my little stack of drawings. We drove the streets towards her house, but stopped for gas. I got out, and as i used the pump, suddenly it struck me! I drove this road to and from her house regularly, as did she. This was something that essentially connected us. We talked along this road, we drove alone, thinking of each other along this road, and I knew the exact middle spot in it. The library.
We had been to this library a number of times. For sword fighting in the park by it, for researching homework, for her to read some interesting book while I looked at the pictures from the books in the drawing and comic artist section.
It was in the middle, common ground. A link. We were two blocks away, and it was perfect. We drove off from the gas station, continued up the road, and chatted a bit about the drawings I'd been doing for her. We talked about how wonderfully perfect the weather had truly been that day. It was humid in the morning, but warm for spring. In the afternoon, a strong breeze came through, the sun shone brightly with the perfect amount of fluffy clouds. I thad been mentioned over dinner that we hoped we could get married on a day like this. I struggled to keep my mouth shut.
The evening was still nice as we drove. The breeze smelled of rain coming. I can't make this stuff up, yesterday was truly a perfect day.
As we neared the library, I turned on my turn signal, and her expression changed. She asked if I was ok. What was I doing? I told her I was just pulling over for a second; I wanted to talk. She was nervous, she apologized for being upset with me earlier about not letting her see the drawing, and asked if that was it.
I told it was, actually. I was going to let her see it now, and that it just felt like the right time for it. She looked vaguely confused. I pulled the stack of drawings (proposal at the bottom), and asked her to flip through them. She commented on each one, and what she liked/disliked about each one. She got to one she hadn't seen yet, and commented  on it a bit before flipping to the last one.
"Hrm. I haven't seen this one.", she said, mid-nervous blush. I opened my door, and grabbed the ring. I walked around to her side, opened her door for her and guided her out by the hand. I gave her a small kiss, stared into her pretty blue eyes, and said "I told you it would be worth the wait.". She sighed and giggled, blushing and smiling as wide as I was. I got down on a knee, popped open the box, and asked her to marry me. She said yes, mid giddy smile!
I slipped the ring on her finger and had her finish the drawing, explaining how I wanted something to remember it by, like the first flower.

A perfect end to a perfect day. And then my Facebook exploded.
